About AISA

Erasmus+ KA210-VET · 1 Sep 2026 to 29 Feb 2028

Co-funded by the European Union

A welding trainer in Gliwice and a welding trainer in Düsseldorf can assess the same skill in very different ways. Together with the organiser of EuroSkills Düsseldorf 2027, we are building tools that base this assessment on clear criteria.

Why this project

A learner finishes a practical exam and gets a result. In one school it is a number on a scale, in another a short note, in a third the verdict of an experienced master who looks at the weld and knows. All three can be right, but none of them tells the learner exactly what they cannot do yet.

Assessment in vocational education in Germany and Poland relies heavily on the experience of individual trainers, because structured tools are missing. According to Cedefop, 77 percent of companies in the EU find it hard to recruit people with the right skills. A 2024 survey by WorldSkills Germany found that fewer than 12 percent of VET institutions offer their trainers any training on AI tools.

What skills competitions already know

At WorldSkills and EuroSkills the same weld has to get the same score from a judge from Portugal and a judge from Finland. For each skill, experts write detailed marking schemes: what is measured, in what order, and what each mistake costs.

This method has been refined for 75 years, but it has rarely left the competition hall. AISA brings it into everyday training. AI takes on the tedious part, comparing a piece of work with a criterion and describing the difference, and the trainer makes the decision.

How we work

Research, until February 2027
A survey of trainers in both countries and an analysis of assessment standards in more than 15 vocational fields.
Toolkit, until August 2027
Materials for 10 vocational fields, tested with 30 trainers before release.
Training, June to November 2027
Two three-day workshops for 40 trainers in Gliwice and Düsseldorf.
Sharing, until January 2028
Events in Düsseldorf and Gliwice, six EPALE articles, a policy brief and open publication of all results.

Who it is for

Directly for trainers and assessors in vocational schools, training centres and companies in Germany and Poland. Indirectly for their learners, who get clearer information on what to improve, and for the institutions that shape assessment standards.

EuroSkills Düsseldorf 2027

The coordinator, EuroSkills 2027 GmbH, organises the European championship of skills in Düsseldorf from 22 to 26 September 2027. Around 850 young professionals from 36 countries will compete there, and AISA will present its results during the event.
